News From Representative Kiel’s Desk

Friends –

This week Republican leaders released budget targets to balance the budget and reform government. Below is a press release that I put out on Thursday.

Representative Deb Kiel Responds to Budget Targets

St. Paul – Today Legislators received budget targets from Republican lawmakers that outlines a plan to erase the $5.2 billion deficit. The plan put forth by lawmakers balances the budget with no tax increases and reduces spending by $3.6 billion in the future. It also would reduce state agency spending by 15 percent along with a 15 percent reduction in state government by 2015.

“We need to put the brakes on spending. For too long we have been over spending in government and not living within our means,” said Rep. Kiel. “We need to live within our means and make sure that we are setting priorities and make sure those priorities are being funded.”

These targets will also hold classroom funding, veterans and court funding harmless. Nursing homes and long term care will be protected as well, while also provide for middle class tax relief.

“It is time for Minnesota to be an economic leader in the 21st century,” said Rep. Kiel. “We have a decision to make, if we want to raise taxes under Governor Dayton’s plan or if we want to put Minnesota back on the path to prosperity and become a national industry and economic leader. The people of Minnesota deserve to keep their jobs here, see less fraud and waste and see reduced bureaucracy in government across the board.”

I have also put together a survey and would appreciate your input on the issues I am facing here at the Capitol. Let me know if you have any questions.

As always I am happy to help and if anyone would like to make an appointment to see me please don’t hesitate to call my office and schedule an appointment with my assistant Stacey.

Thanks,

Deb
