Friends –

This week state economists issued their "February forecast" with the latest revenue projections for the next biennium, FY 2012 - 2013. We are also continuing to review Governor Dayton’s budget in our committees.

The budget forecast shows how much revenue we can expect so that we can continue setting the state budget. In the last forecast, it was estimated that state revenues would increase from approximately $30 billion to $32 billion, or about a 6 percent increase. The $6.2 billion deficit that you keep hearing about is because expenditures are automatically set to increase about 28 percent.

I also attended my Republican BPOU Conventions last weekend and they were a great success, I want to thank the volunteers for all of their hard work to make the convention possible.

I also visited the University of Minnesota last weekend. Addressing the students and faculty at UMC was very successful. We spoke about Governor Dayton's budget, what we were dealing with in our committees, ways to deal with our $5.1 billion overspending. It was a great time of dialogue with the students and faculty.

I also wanted to pass on some flood insurance information. If you have not purchased flood insurance I would highly recommend you do so as soon as possible if you are in danger of flood issues this spring.
