St. Paul – House Republicans passed their Phase 1 budget bill Thursday on the House floor. The Early Action Budget Bill has passed all committees and was heard late Thursday afternoon on the House floor. Amendments have been made to this bill so that Local Government Aid (LGA) remains the same for 2011 as 2010 unless certified for less. Many of the cities in Rep. Kiel’s district had already certified for less, but would also see a significant reduction in funding.
“Although this bill would significantly reduce our budget deficit I believe that it would have hurt my district more than help it,” said Rep. Kiel. “I look forward to working with my fellow members to find a solution for our area to provide necessary funding yet find creative solutions to reduce the deficit.”
House file 130 is said to address structural spending issues by making one-time reductions from this year permanent and it also prevents state agencies from spending unnecessary funds at the end of the year.
Rep. Deb Kiel (R-Crookston) is serving her first term at the Minnesota House of Representatives.
