Dear Neighbor,
Legislative leaders and the governor held budget meetings throughout the weekend. They seem to have made progress, but much work remains before a solution will be in place.
Thursday is the end of the fiscal year, meaning many government operations would cease Friday until a budget is enacted. This would impact us in a number ways, some of which we maybe haven't considered. For example, you better purchase a fishing license asap if you have not already done so because the processing of licenses could stop Friday. The safest thing to do is to get one now at www.dnr.state.mn.us or by stopping at any of the regular retailers.
I still hope we can find a breakthrough with the budget in time to avert a shutdown and I will keep you posted as things develop. I did come across an interesting Wall Street Journal article that shows how Gov. Dayton's "tax the rich" plan has backfired elsewhere. Here is the link: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124329282377252471.html.
Sincerely,
Glenn
