Dear Neighbor,
We worked through the weekend at the Capitol to try to get things wrapped up before the constitutional deadline to adjourn, which arrives today at midnight.
Right now we are awaiting word from the governor regarding the package of budget bills we sent him. Our plan balances the budget without raising taxes by staying within the $34 billion in revenue the state expects to receive during the upcoming biennium. The governor wants to enact job-killing tax increases to help cover an extra $2 billion in spending.
I strongly oppose the tax increases he proposes and spoke to this issue on the House floor earlier this week. Go here to see a short clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r3DF3y4cAw
