LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

News from Representative Franson

This week a bill I have authored regarding artwork in state buildings was heard in the House Government Operations and Elections Committee which approved the bill as amended and sent it to the House State Government Finance Committee.

Current state law allows for an appropriation for construction or alteration of a state building may contain an amount up to one percent of the total appropriation for acquisition of works of art for the building or its grounds.

The bill was amended to reflect that $100,000 per building would be limited to artwork. I believe that $100K is a reasonable limit and a reasonable contribution from the taxpayers to this program. We do have to be frugal with our taxpayer dollars.

Last week I mentioned the bill introduced by Representative Garofalo to start paying back the education shift, and this week we passed that bill on the House floor. I think this bill will greatly improve our state’s financial future by paying back debt that we owe. Although it won’t disappear overnight we are making great progress toward moving the shift back to a standard 90/10.

We are nearing the end of the survey process so if you haven’t taken my survey please do so I want to hear your thoughts.

If you have any legislative questions please don’t hesitate to email me at rep.mary.franson@house.mn or contact my office by calling 651-296-3201

Have a great weekend!

Mary
