Session started on Tuesday as Speaker of the House, Kurt Zellers, gaveled us in. So it begins! I am looking forward to the reforms that we will be introducing this year as I mentioned in my last email update.
Please take a look at this short video. We have many reforms we want to include during our session this year, and thanks to the people of Minnesota who came to town halls and told us what government can do to get out of your way and help you run your business better.

I have signed onto an important bill, HF 1766, in regards to child care funding and payment if a union were to ever form. The bill states that federal, state and local child care funds must be paid directly to the parents when a provider cares for children in the children’s own home. In all other cases, all funds must be paid directly to the child care provider, either licensed or legal non-licensed, on behalf of the eligible family. The important part of this bill is the last line which says, “Union dues or fair share fees may not be deducted from funds distributed under this chapter.”
It is my hope this bill will pass the House floor during this session. The next hearing for the child care union issue will be on February 22nd.
As this bill and many others move through the legislative process I will keep you up to date. As always if you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to call my office at 651-296-3201 or email me at rep.mary.franson@house.mn
