St. Paul – Thursday, Representative Franson introduced legislation that would amend the Minnesota Constitution. The bill proposed says that a law cannot be passed that will interfere with a person or entity’s right to choose their own health care and pay for it. And that a law cannot impose any type of fine or penalty for choosing to obtain or decline health care coverage.
Representative Franson hopes this bill will move through the House and Senate next session and would be put before voters during the 2012 elections. The question on the ballot, if passed by the legislature would be:
“Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to state that all people should have the right to make decisions about their health care, and no law shall be passed that restricts a person's freedom of choice of private health care systems or private plans of any type? No law shall interfere with a person's or entity's right to pay directly for lawful medical services, nor shall any law impose a penalty or fine, of any type, for choosing to obtain or decline health care coverage or for participation in any particular health care system or plan. Yes or No.”
“It is my hope that this legislation will be passed through the House and Senate during the 2012 session and the question will be put before voters November of 2012,” said Rep. Franson. “We cannot accept a forced health care plan that increases government control and bureaucracy on the lives of Minnesotans.”
