LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Small Businesses Should Not Be Forced to Unionize by Governor Dayton!

By one stroke of a pen, our 11,000 child care providers could see themselves becoming a part of a union. That is what unions want Governor Dayton to do by signing an executive order. The Freedom Foundation of Minnesota reported that over the past five years AFSCME and other public unions have widened their grip on Minnesota workers and want to force child care providers into a union; paying dues and forcing more government regulation onto Minnesota small businesses.

The unethical process of the card gathering is how unions in Minnesota intend to go after child care providers. The shady and aggressive process of collecting cards where folks thought they were just signing up for more information is completely absurd. My own provider had this happen to her and now has to email AFSME and hope they will return her card. She thought she was signing up for more information. Sadly, she was misled.

Our child care providers pride themselves on being private business owners. How do they think they will remain competitive with big government reaching down their throats? This is not common sense and this is not what is right for Minnesota.

When the average household pays upwards of $12,000 per year for day care services, would you like to pay more?

I would also encourage all Minnesotans that are concerned about this issue to call the governor’s office.

Sincerely,

Representative Mary Franson
