Mary’s Memos from the Capitol
Dear Friends –
This week we are continuing to review the budget and we are formulating our budget targets for when we present our budget in committees. We will balance this budget, but the decisions will not always be easy ones. The town halls this weekend were a success and I enjoyed speaking with many of you about important issues facing our state.
Budget Targets:
Legislators received budget targets from Republican lawmakers outlining a plan to erase the $5.2 billion deficit. The plan put forth by lawmakers balances the budget with no tax increases and reduces spending by $3.6 billion in the future. It also would reduce state agency spending by 15 percent along with a 15 percent reduction in state government by 2015. Our targets keep our budget within our means and we aren’t spending more than we have.
Town halls
Last weekend I joined Senator Ingebrigtsen in our district for town hall meetings. We had great turn-out. I’d like to thank everyone who came for the great conversation about the budget and other important issues. I hope that you will continue to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Mary’s Travels
I will be traveling back to the district this week and I look forward to joining many of my constituents
