St. Paul – House Republicans passed their first budget bill on Thursday, January 27th. The Early Action Budget Bill has passed all committees and was heard on the floor Thursday. Amendments were made to this bill so that Local Government Aid (LGA) remains the same for 2011 as 2010 unless certified for less. Each city and county will be receiving in 2011 what they received in 2010.
“This budget bill is the first step towards balancing the state’s budget deficit,” said Rep. Franson. “Our hard working Minnesota families are living within their means everyday and our state government needs to do the same.”
House file 130 is said to address structural spending issues by making one-time reductions from this year permanent and it also prevents state agencies from spending unnecessary funds at the end of the year.
“We need to address our spending habits at the State Legislature and this bill allows us to do that,” said Rep. Franson. “We cannot spend more than we have. We have been doing this for too long and this bill addresses that issue and is a great first step to reducing the budget deficit.”
Franson (R-Alexandria) is serving her first term at the Minnesota House of Representatives.
