As many of you know I am a member of the Small Business Caucus. Last week we held a press conference this week as well to shed light on many small business issues, and bills that are being introduced to give job creators tools to hire more Minnesotans, and hopefully encourage them to expand here in Minnesota. This is a bipartisan effort to make small businesses a priority. Two bills that I am working on are the environmental permitting reform bill and a small business capital equipment sales tax exemption.
Last week I had a meeting with Rob Sando from the Roseau River Watershed District, Nick Drees from Middle-Snake-Tamarac Rivers Watershed District and Dan Money from Two Rivers Watershed District. We also met with Capital Investment Committee Chairman, Rep. Howes to discuss funding for flood prevention projects as part of the bonding bill.
More and more we find these projects have multiple benefits outside of reducing damage caused by flooding. These projects help with reducing downstream sedimentation along with improving wildlife habitats.
I also met with the high school pages at the House of Representatives. Juniors from schools across Minnesota come to the House of Representatives each week. These students have the opportunity for hands-on experience to gain an in-depth look at how Minnesota government works. I spent about 45 minutes with the students, discussing what it’s like to be a legislator and addressed many issues facing Minnesota today.
I enjoyed being a guest of Key Teeters on KTRF. On Monday of last week we discussed current legislative issues.
Wednesday night I attended the Prowlers hockey game during the state hockey tournament, which was held at the Excel Center in St. Paul. They did a great job and pulled out a win over New Ulm! Congratulations on their 4th place finish at the state tournament on Saturday. Way to go!
Don’t forget to participate in my 2012 legislative survey!
Have a great week!
Dan
