This has been a busy week in committees and on the House floor. On Wednesday the governor gave the annual State of the State Address.
As many of you may remember I authored House File 1 last year in regards to environmental permitting. This year I am continuing to reform the permitting process with House File 2095. Our businesses and local governments continue to struggle with some permitting. We must make sure that we are doing more to make permitting less difficult and less costly. This bill is an effort to keep jobs here in Minnesota and thus stimulate our economy while continuing to protect the environment. I want to thank Governor Dayton and his agencies for their help on moving this bill forward. Last year we made great bi-partisan progress toward getting environmental reviews done quicker, and this year our goal is to continue assisting our business community and local governments who need permits.

Members of the Legislature, along with the state Supreme Court justices listened as Governor Mark Dayton delivered his State of the State address Wednesday evening during a joint convention of the House and Senate. Steve Tourek, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Marvin Windows and Doors and Steve Nordhagen, Mayor of Thief River Falls joined me for the address Wednesday evening.
We have also been discussing invasive species and increasing licensing fees in the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee. I would appreciate your feedback on those issues. I also met with Commissioner Landwehr on Thursday. I continue to try to express a significant feeling of frustration with the agency and have urged him to take more steps to address many concerns that we feel are very important.
Anne Temte, President of Northland Community and Technical College also made a visit to St. Paul this week. We spoke about the future of the college and funding for the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program. I had the pleasure of introducing her to House members during the beginning of session on Thursday.
Don’t forget to participate in my legislative survey.
