This Friday we celebrate Veterans Day. I would encourage you to take some time this weekend to reflect and remember those who have served in our Armed Forces. Our veterans have made many sacrifices and although we will never be able to repay them for their service to our country there are many opportunities to volunteer. Be sure to attend your local Veterans Day programs to show your support and pay tribute to our brave American soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Take time to shake their hands and say thank you for their part in making the USA the greatest country on God's earth. Also don’t forget to visit the Department of Veterans Affairs website for more information on volunteering in your community. http://www.volunteer.va.gov/
Congratulations to facility administrator Michele Halvorson and the staff at the Thief River Care Center on the grand opening of their new assisted living facility in Thief River Falls. This facility will provide a much needed service and will help numerous members of our community.
Deer hunting season is well underway this week with Thanksgiving fast approaching. I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable hunting season. A reminder to deer hunters, that the DNR has a goal of testing 500 deer for bovine TB. As of Tuesday only about 100 samples had been taken. Be sure to get your deer to the testing sites. Hopefully we won't have to see sharpshooters working to fill the quota.
I took some time to go hunting this week and managed to bag a deer. Time spent at the camp with family and friends is priceless. My newest grandson, Max, made his first trip to the cabin. I look forward to all of my grandchildren taking part in our rich heritage of hunting in Minnesota.
