This week I traveled through the district and I also submitted a column to the local newspapers about the improved funding to rural schools over the next biennium.
Last week, I attended a meeting at NCTC to attend the Foundation Board of Directors quarterly meeting at the East Grand Forks campus. I also attended the Marshal county fair parade in Warren and also attended the Arctic Cat 50th Anniversary celebration in Thief River Falls. I also attended the Northwest regional development commission in Warren. This week I attended a city council meeting in Grygla.
Congratulations to Marshall and Lorna Hemmes of Humboldt and Kelman and Elizabeth Kvien of Roseau for being recognized this week by the University of Minnesota as a 2011 Farm Families of the Year at the annual Farmfest event near Redwood Falls, MN.
Education Column:
The budget bills signed into law by Governor Dayton will help to improve the lives of Minnesotans. The Education budget bill contains the majority of the funding from the general fund budget, and this year will help to provide some increased funding for our Greater Minnesota schools.
It should be noted that in past budget years when education funds were shifted in order to balance the budget, additional funding was not given to our schools. This year in order to bring some relief to Minnesota school districts we offered increased per pupil funding.
I have worked hard at the legislature to bring improved fairness to funding between metro schools and rural schools and through this initiative we are able to start tackling the funding gap. Many of the schools in District 1A will receive increased per pupil funding through 2013.
The Lancaster school district is projected to receive an increase of $1,988 totaling $12,856 per pupil in funding through 2013. Marshall County Central will receive $551 additional dollars through 2013 an increase to $11,087 per pupil. The Grygla school district can expect to see an additional $298 per pupil increasing to $12,878 by 2013. Goodridge will receive an additional $1,121 per pupil through 2013, an increase to $13,058 per pupil by 2013.
The Thief River Falls school district will receive an additional $299 per pupil through 2013, increasing total per pupil funding to $8,772. Badger will receive an additional $943 through 2013, increasing per pupil funding to $10,604 through 2013. Roseau will increase to $8,676 through 2013 with an additional $364 per pupil. Warroad will see additional funding of $28 increasing to $8,913 per pupil through 2013.
Kittson Central will receive an additional $1,024 through 2013, increasing total per pupil funds to $13,313. The Tri-County district will receive an additional $1,005 through 2013, increasing total funds per pupil to $12,683. Greenbush-Middle River funding is set to increase by $664 seeing an increase in total per pupil funding of $$11,340 through 2013. Stephen-Argyle Central School -district will receive $894 in additional funding through 2013 with total funds increasing to $11,841 per pupil through 2013.
With the funding to our schools going directly to improve education for our students, we are making students a priority and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
Sincerely,
Dan Fabian
