NEWS RELEASE

Representative Dan Fabian Votes in Favor of Budget Bills to Bring End to Prolonged Government Shutdown

St. Paul – Tuesday morning Governor Dayton called legislators back to St. Paul for a special session to officially end the government shutdown lasting 20 days. Governor Dayton announced last week that he would drop his tax increases and would agree to the proposal made by Republicans on June 30th with three conditions. Legislators agreed to this framework and spent much of the weekend reconciling differences to come up with a final budget.

“I am glad that this shutdown has come to an end, it is time to put thousands of Minnesotans back to work and re-open our state parks and rest areas,” said Rep. Fabian.

The governor and legislators were able to work together and come up with a budget that we could all agree on, although not ideal for either side, a budget needed to be passed. Many reforms in the bills included, legacy funding, which will enhance many of our state parks and trails in district 1A. Increased education funding as well as transportation funding will go towards improving Greater Minnesota.

“I was happy to hear about the increase in education funding that district 1A will receive, our students will greatly benefit from this as well as the increase in funding for transportation to improve our roads and bridges,” added Rep. Fabian.

Governor Dayton signed all 12 of the budget bills Wednesday morning to bring an official end to the government shutdown. Thousands of state employees are expected to return to work Thursday morning.
