Now that the budget bills have been finalized, we are nearing the end of the government shutdown. Governor Dayton held a press conference earlier today asking lawmakers to return to the House and Senate chambers to hold a special session in order to balance the budget and end the shutdown.
Governor Dayton last week announced that he would agree to the Republican’s proposed budget from June 30th on three conditions and drop his tax increases on Minnesotans. We agreed to this framework, and set out working on the details, and now today the bills are finalized and session has begun.
Many reforms are included in the bills that are key to government reform and making Minnesota tax dollars go farther than before. Although this budget deal is not perfect, it does continue pushing Minnesota in the right direction.
Growing our economy and encouraging job creation does not begin with a tax increase, but can begin by keeping the tax burden low for Minnesotans and our businesses and by reforming the way government operates.
