Yesterday Governor Dayton said that he would accept Republican legislators’ proposal offer made on June 30th. We have said during the 2011 session that we do not need to raise taxes and that living within the $34 billion we have is enough. It’s especially important to note that we will not be raising taxes. During these uncertain economic times it is important to allow Minnesotans to keep more of their hard earned money, facilitating job growth and making it easier for citizens to do business in Minnesota.
It is my hope that the governor will call a special session early next week to end this shutdown. This will get permits and licenses into the hands of those who need them, open our state parks, and put 23,000 Minnesotans back to work. Road and bridge projects will continue along with several construction projects around district 1A and the state.
The Thief River airport got great news today from the "special master". She ruled in favor of the request to have the MPCA sign the NPDES permit. This ruling is huge in that it will keep the construction project moving forward. Had the request been denied the runway construction would have come to a halt. Good work by Joe Hedrick and his team.
Please stay tuned as we begin a special session next week.
Sincerely,
Dan
