News From Representative Fabian
Last week I was visiting with Don and he sent me this letter he submitted to a few area newspapers this week and I wanted to share with you what some folks in our district are saying about the government shutdown and our state budget.
Gov. Dayton was handed the largest budget ever in Minn. history, BALANCED, UP 6%, and SIX WEEKS ahead of schedule. 6 out of ten bills were already approved. Including 100 % funding for EDUCATION, COURTS, AND PUBLIC SAFETY. Signing those three, plus the 3 other already approved, would have kept govt. running. Instead, he threw the 23,000 state employees under the bus to prepare for the 2012, blame the Republicans, campaign. If the budget includes another $1.8 billion from the rich, 2 years from now, the budget starting point will be over $36 billion compared to just over $34 billion now. With the automatic increases always built into these things, the next budget would be pushing $40 billion. If they have by then already taxed the rich, guess who they will be coming for next???? In this part of the state, from Thief River Falls, to Greenbush, Roseau, Warroad and Baudette we are very fortunate to have individuals and families that started and built companies from an idea and a work ethic. They provided jobs for thousands of people who built homes, built spin off businesses, raised families that filled the towns and schools and paid taxes. The Gov. should be giving these people a pat on the back instead of looking for away to kick them in the behind. I say sign the fair & balanced budget, even if it includes $200,000. for the DNR to study how turtles can be safely removed from crossing a highway!!!!
