UPDATE

News From Representative Fabian

This week legislators and the Governor continue to meet in order to work out a budget deal. The latest offer brought last Thursday included an additional $10 million to the University of Minnesota. Governor Dayton wanted to shift school aid payments from 70/30 to 50/50 but, GOP leaders said no to Governor Dayton's 50/50 school aid payment shift, but did move a little on that split to generate $700 million in revenue for the Governor. Republican leaders then offered to increase per student aid to cover borrowing costs. This was rejected by Governor Dayton as well as a lights-on bill that could have kept government services open while a final budget was finished.

This week I wanted to know what you all had to say about the government shutdown and what you think needs to be done in order to solve the budget, so I traveled to about a dozen farms in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. I enjoyed visiting with many farmers, including David Dahlgren whom I am pictured with below.

Neil Juhnke, President of Northstar Agri Industries, told me that they now have more than 120 construction workers employed at the site of the Canola crushing facility. Neil and I visited test plots in the area and met with over 30 farmers.

I enjoyed meeting so many people at the Greenbush Rodeo and the 4th of July parades in both Greenbush and Warroad. Thanks to all of you for the great support I received. Our message of limiting state government growth, living within our means and not raising taxes to make us the state with the second highest rate in the nation resonates so well with the good common sense people of northwest Minnesota.

I also did 2 local radio interviews this week and met with Badger Mayor, Jim Rinde to discuss the grant that the city of Badger received from DEED. The money will be used to refurbish several buildings in Badger.

I am committed to working hard on your behalf and protecting your taxpayer dollars. If I can be of help in any way or you would like to set up a meeting in the district, please call my office.

Sincerely,

Dan
