POST SESSION UPDATE

News From Representative Fabian

Friends –

This week I have been busy traveling around the district and have had the chance to visit with many of you. Tuesday morning I was in Erskine for the annual meeting of the Garden Valley Telephone Company. Thank you to the board of directors for inviting me to be a part of this. It was great to see so many people in attendance.

I also attended the Thief River Falls City Council meeting on Tuesday. Thief River Falls is planning for the future by annexing land into the city for the new Sanford Health Hospital. Congratulations to Mayor Steve Nordhagen and all the council members for their service to the city. Some of the issues they are dealing with are those associated with growth. What a great problem to have. House Majority Leader, Representative Matt Dean was in the area on Tuesday evening, and together we met, at the Evergreen in Thief River Falls, with about 40 people to discuss the State budget and the new compromise put forth by Republicans. It was encouraging to see people from all over the district. For the people from Warroad it was a 180 round trip! We had lots of great discussion and answers to questions posed by many of those in attendance. It gives me confidence to know that so many of you support our budget plan of 6% growth in spending while holding the line on taxes.

I was on KTRF’s Open Line program this week, with Key and Mark. Below is a link to listen to the program. http://www.trfradio.com/page/program_links
Wednesday I met with Joan Timm of the Greenbush Tribune for an interview. The interview centered `mainly around the budget and education. You can visit the Tribune website for details. After the interview I stopped into the Twins Café and visited with a number of local residents over a cup of coffee. Later in the day I made a quick stop in Middle River and there too had a visit at the café with some of the locals.

Thursday was a day to visit with some of the ATV dealerships in the district to hear their concerns about sales tax on items sold in Canada. I also stopped into a couple "main street" businesses in TRF and chatted about issues that they face in a struggling economy.

Congratulations to Emerson Michal of Roseau on achieving the Eagle Scout award. Way to go Emerson! Being an Eagle Scout myself I appreciate the large amount of work that goes into one of the most significant achievements that a young man can achieve. Congratulations to the Badger/Greenbush-Middle River girls’ softball team along with coach Kent Christian who won their section 8A tournament and are now headed to the state tournament. The Thief River Falls Prowlers boys track and field team, coached by Lynn Dyer and Tim Olson, as well as the tennis team, coached by Tim Englestad, won their section tournaments and are headed to the state tournament. Great job and good luck!

Please feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss issues or to schedule a meeting in your community.
