Friends –
This week we begin the process of putting together conference committees for the budget bills that were passed last week. I consider it a privilege to have been chosen to sit on the K-12 Education Conference Committee. In this committee, I along with 4 other house members and 5 Senate members will work out the differences in this bill. After we have agreed upon one final bill, it will go back to the House for a vote and will then make its way to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
I am also the chief author of The Lands Bill, which is House File 1230. This bill includes provisions authorizing the sale of certain lands administered by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and other provisions related to the administration of state land being recommended by the DNR. The purpose of this bill is to compare transactions and to settle boundary disputes. A number of different things can purport the DNR to either sell land to a private property owner the DNR no longer wishes to have, or private owners can transfer property to the DNR. In our district, 1A, a family was able to get the state to sell them 4 acres. When the DNR resurveyed the land, a new boundary went right through their cabin. In working with the legislature and the DNR the family was able to get the line redrawn to its proper place.
The Lands subcommittee met this week, and House File 1230 was referred to the Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where it was then tabled. We hope to have this bill passed out of committee and on its way to the House floor soon. This is a non-controversial bill with great bi-partisan support.
I also would like to let everyone know that I will be doing a number of Town Halls over the Easter break and I would enjoy speaking with you about concerns and ideas you may have. Please see the schedule below. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact my assistant Jordan.
