SESSION UPDATE

News From Representative Fabian’s Desk

Friends –

This week has been a busy week again as we take up the last 3 omnibus spending bills. On Tuesday evening the jobs and development omnibus bill passed the House and on Wednesday night the state government finance bill as well as the health and human services finance bill passed. The budget bills that have passed the House over the last couple weeks balance the state's budget without raising taxes. These bills are fiscally responsible. They also require us to live within our means, just like hard-working Minnesotans do.

Budget Bills:

Jobs and Economic Development Bill HF 1049: More information can be found here http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/bs/87/HF1049.html
This bill prioritizes spending to focus on workforce development programs that are needed to help Minnesotans get back to work and on programs that are delivering outcomes for the investments we are making. The bill also protects the most vulnerable in our housing programs – the mentally ill and family homeless prevention.

State Government Finance Bill HF 577: More information can be found here http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/bs/87/HF0577.html
This bill implements needed reforms and initiatives designed to reduce costs, improve service delivery, and transform government. The reforms offered, promote fiscal stability and modernizes state services.

Health and Human Services Bill HF 927: More Information can be found here http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/bs/87/HF0927.html
This bill includes many significant reforms to move Minnesota into the 21st century. This bill would
• Repeal Governor Dayton’s plan to enroll Minnesota in the early Medical Assistance program
• It also includes several significant reforms, including a federal Medicaid global waiver and block grant, modeled on the program implemented in Rhode Island
• Our main concern is to protect priorities, including seniors, the disabled and the safety net.
• also represents a 15 percent reduction in projected spending increases, helping to restore fiscal stability and make the system sustainable

We have also passed 6 other budget balancing bills off the House Floor in the last 2 weeks. They include Taxes, Transportation, Agriculture, K-12 Education, Higher Education, Public Safety/Judiciary. These bills will all be heading to conference committee's to work out differences with the Senate and Governor Dayton before they will come back for re-passage.
