St. Paul – Representative Bob Barrett (R-Shafer) encourages local residents to apply for membership on the Minnesota State Advisory Council on Mental Health and its subcommittee on Children’s Mental Health.
“The board includes Minnesota citizens from all walks of life and all parts of the state,” Rep. Barrett explained. “Some work in the field of mental health and others are private citizens who have friends, family, or loved ones afflicted with a mental illness.”
Rep. Barrett was appointed last year by Governor Mark Dayton to represent the 134 members of the Minnesota House of Representatives on the council. It is the council’s responsibility to advise the Governor, Legislature, and state departments on policies, programs, and services affecting adults with mental illnesses and children with emotional disturbances.
“The council allows people who are interested in this important issue to have their voices heard regarding how the state of Minnesota serves those afflicted with mental illness,” Rep. Barrett said.
More information can be located at mentalhealth.dhs.state.mn.us. Applications are available on the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website under “Open Commissions and Appointments” and must be submitted by February 6, 2012.
