Neighbors,
The 2012 Legislative Session began on Tuesday, January 24th. After facing a budget shortfall at the beginning of the 2011 session, it is great to start 2012 with a projected budget surplus of $876 million thanks to the efforts of our legislature for holding the line on excessive spending at the state level.
On Thursday, January 19, 2012 legislative leaders from the Minnesota House and Senate introduced our agenda for Reform 2.0. The 2012 Reform 2.0 agenda focuses on creating a competitive business climate to foster job growth, high performing education, health care reform, and government effectiveness.
The upcoming 2012 Legislative Session is going to be one largely based on reforms. Our government will have a hard time trying to live within its means in the outdated, rigid state our public systems are in.
It is time to put our confidence back into Minnesota’s job creators and grow the private sector economy.
Reform 2.0 will bring much needed common sense and competitiveness to government regulations. When a government is effective, it has the ability to save the taxpayers money. In Minnesota, our government is 20 years behind in streamlining government and the taxpayers are paying the price for that every day. Our reforms will reduce the size and cost of government, create much needed transparency in local government spending decisions, as well as equalize the pay and benefits between the private and public sector.
Members of the House and Senate traveled Minnesota to meet with hundreds of business owners, local government leaders, and interested citizens. Through these meetings, it has been made clear that Minnesota is ready for a change - ready for the reform it needs. Reform 2.0 is Minnesota’s agenda for a prosperous future.
I am looking forward to a great session doing what is best for Minnesota. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns about any legislative issue.
Thanks,
Tim
