ST. PAUL¬-State Representative Tim Sanders participated in a small business listening session in Blaine last Wednesday, hosted by the MetroNorth Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee. Joining Sanders were State Representative Peggy Scott (R-District 49A, Andover), State Senator Debbie Johnson (R-District 49, Ham Lake), and Revenue Commissioner Ward Einess. Topics discussed by attendees included taxes, the housing market, and state competition for business development within the region and globally.
“The legislature’s biggest failure is that we only focus on fixing the state budget It becomes a perpetual cycle centered on government alone,” said Sanders. “The only real way to solve our budget problem is to facilitate a strong, prosperous economy. Today I heard directly from our community’s business owners, and they sent a clear message of what government can do-and what we should not do-to jumpstart the economy.”
With the legislature set to reconvene in February, Representative Sanders plans to work on translating the concerns of business owners into effective policy. “As these small business owners made clear, we cannot raise taxes, we cannot take away credits like the mortgage rate interest deduction, and we must develop incentives for business investment and growth.”
Representative Sanders encourages business owners and constituents to continue to contact him with ideas, concerns, and feedback. “Together we will jumpstart Minnesota’s economy and develop a business climate of long-term growth and prosperity.”
