Dear Neighbor,
This Wednesday I participated in a business listening session to
dialogue with local business owners about their needs and concerns. I
discussed my view that we cannot solve our state’s budget problem
without growth in the private market, and heard directly from our
business community ideas for jumpstarting recovery and expansion.
The message was loud and clear against raising taxes and against
eliminating credits like the home mortgage interest deduction.
Attendees also brought up the issue of rising property taxes and fees
affecting residential home sales and commercial property rates.
We also discussed the need to attract business investment and growth in
a globalized economy. Minnesota faces competition regionally,
nationally, and around the entire globe. Attendees highlighted the
importance of developing a business climate that not only gives birth to
great companies, but that keeps them here and attracts existing
corporations to relocate. The business owners expressed their desire
for the legislature to find common ground and resolve these issues with
pragmatism and expediency.
As on all topics and issues, I encourage you to contact me with your
feedback. Through personal exchange of ideas we can catalyze economic
recovery and continue to make Blaine a great place to live, work, and
raise a family.
Until next time,
Tim
