Friends and Neighbors,
It was great to see so many of you out at my Town Hall Meeting this week. Here’s what’s been going on since then.
In this issue:
1. Survey
2. Visiting with Blaine residents
3. Don’t Spend More Than You Earn
1. Survey
It is truly an honor to represent you in St. Paul. It is a humbling experience that I greatly enjoy. In order to represent you better I welcome your thoughts and comments on any legislative issue. I have also made available my 2009 Legislative Survey which you can take online at www.house.mn/51A. If you have other thoughts or comments please feel free to email me or call my office.
2. Visiting with Blaine residents
I would like to thank everyone who attended my Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, February 21. It was great to see so many people from the community in attendance.
While there was a great discussion on a number of different issues, there was a common theme from everyone: The state must live within its means, just like the families do. This is a theme I hear on a daily basis from the people of Blaine, and it is one that I will always keep in mind while I am representing you.
It was also great to see so many people out at the Legislative Budget Hearing last night. We heard from 62 residents from the north metro area and a number of people from Blaine. Thank you to everyone who came out to share your budget ideas with the legislature!
3. Don’t Spend More Than You Earn
On Monday on the House Floor my colleague Paul Kohls tried to offer a House Resolution that would have set the amount of money the state can spend this biennium to the amount of money it takes in. This simple spending formula is one that every family uses.
Unfortunately this resolution was not even allowed to be brought to the House Floor. Instead of even talking about this common sense idea, the Majority in the House decided they’d rather go home for the day. While we will try to bring forth this proposal again, it’s disheartening the Majority is silencing the Minority and not even allowing the opportunity to speak on the issue.
That’s all for now, but during the session, I’ll be sharing more information on what is happening at the Capitol. As always please feel free to contact me on the budget, or any other legislative issue. You can email me at rep.tim.sanders@house.mn or call me at 651-296-4226.
Until next time,
Tim
