THE ROAD TO ECONOMIC RECOVERY

To the Editor:

The road to economic recovery in Minnesota is paved with jobs, and good, old-fashioned asphalt. According to State Economist Tom Stinson, making targeted investments in Minnesota’s infrastructure - including roads, bridges, and transitways - will create thousands of jobs quickly and hasten our economic recovery.

That’s advice House lawmakers took, passing a strategic $200 million investment in repairing Minnesota’s critical infrastructure. The bill (HF855), targeting funding for the repair of local bridges, transportation infrastructure, and state college facilities passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 93 to 40.

These smart investments focused on shovel-ready projects will leverage millions in additional federal recovery dollars and supplement the biggest road and bridge reconstruction effort in Minnesota history.

Several critical improvements to roads in our area are being funded or considered this construction season. About $86 million in federal recovery funds are coming to Minnesota for the completion of Hwy 610 - a long overdue project. I have also authored legislation (HF1028) to expand Hwy 10 to three lanes between Hanson Boulevard and Round Lake Boulevard in Coon Rapids. These important projects will significantly reduce traffic congestion, create jobs, and help boost our local economy.

Putting our economy back in gear means getting in the driver’s seat. I’ll continue doing everything I can to help jumpstart Minnesota’s economy and put people back to work. But I need your help and continued input. Please contact me with your questions and concerns. I look forward to hearing from you.
