TOP STATE OFFICIALS TO PRESENT LOCAL VETERAN WITH INTERNATIONAL AWARD
ST. PAUL – Gov. Mark Dayton, House Speaker Rep. Kurt Zellers, Rep. Jenifer Loon and others will host an event to award Lt. Col. Kenneth Guetzke with a “Chevalier” of the French Legion of Honor.
The event will take place 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 in the community room of The Colony At Eden Prairie, 431 Prairie Center Drive, Eden Prairie.
The 96-year-old Eden Prairie resident will receive the Chevalier as a symbol of appreciation from France and President Nicolas Sarkozy for his contributions during World War II. Guetzke also earned a Purple Heart at Omaha Beach.
Dayton will issue the Chevalier to Guetzke and Zellers will present him with a House Resolution, recognizing Guetzke's accomplishments. An honor guard from Everett McClay VFW Post 1296 in Bloomington and others also will be on hand.
