Hello from St. Paul!
On Tuesday, the 5-person panel on redistricting with the Minnesota Courts released the new legislative redistricting maps for Minnesota, which go into effect in January of next year. I am grateful to represent our great community, and it is an honor to be able to represent you in St. Paul. On Wednesday, Governor Dayton signed HF 1770, one of our Reform 2.0 initiatives, into law. The bill passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support and is a very positive reform measure for our schools. HF 1770 requires teacher candidates to take and pass a basic skills exam before receiving their teaching license in Minnesota. This is a very important development for Minnesota's students, as we ensure that we have teachers who are prepared for educating our future work force.
HF 2394 was passed by the Senate and presented to Governor Dayton yesterday evening. The bill made changes to community notification requirements for sex offenders. The legislation was first passed by the House on Monday. The bill was signed into law last night, and is effective today.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns on legislative issues.
Enjoy your weekend,
Tara
