Hello from St. Paul!
This Tuesday, January 24th, we started the 2012 Legislative Session and I am looking forward to the work we will be doing this session with an agenda focused on reform. It is also an exciting time for
Minnesota, after 4 years of having a budget deficit, we are now facing an $876 million budget surplus. While there is still work to be done in getting our state's fiscal house in order, attaining a surplus without raising taxes on hard working Minnesotans is a huge step in the right direction.
On Thursday, January 19, 2012 legislative leaders from the Minnesota House and Senate unveiled our agenda for Reform 2.0.
The 2012 Reform 2.0 agenda focuses on four key areas:
- Creating a competitive business climate to help grow the private sector
- Education reform
- Health care reform
- Government effectiveness
Over the next several weeks, I will keep you updated on the specific pieces of legislation moving forward that support each of these reform
areas. Last session, the legislature passed critical reforms which allowed us to hold the line on spending and live within our means. With the Reform 2.0 agenda, we intend to build on those reforms in order to improve transparency, reign in spending and do what we can to allow the businesses of this great state to grow jobs and improve our ability to compete with other states for job providers.
I am looking forward to a great session this year and encourage you to stay in touch with me along the way. You can email me at rep.tara.mack@house.mn or call my office at (651) 296-5506.
Have a great weekend!
