Fitness Jam tonight; budget work continues
Greetings from the Capitol!
If you are looking for something to do this evening in the community, I encourage you to participate in the Minnesota Valley YMCA Fitness Jam.
I have had the opportunity to serve on the Community Board for the Burnsville YMCA for the past couple years and this event is a great opportunity for people of all ages to support a program which works to build a healthy, engaged and connected community. Fitness Jam will be from 6 to 9 p.m. and admission is $2 for children and $5 for adults (maximum $15 per family).
Here is the schedule of Fitness Jam activities:
6 p.m. Kids activities, silent-auction browsing begins
7 p.m. Kids Fitness
7:30 p.m. Kids Stuff Movie
7:30 p.m. Zumba
8 p.m. Turbo
8:30 p.m. PiYo
9 p.m. Silent auction ends

BUDGET UPDATE
We still are working to finalize our state budget for the upcoming biennium. A couple of announcements the Governor made Thursday may make it more difficult to find resolution.
During a news conference Thursday, he announced he would not allow his agency heads to meet with legislative leaders, who were hoping a meeting with commissioners would foster a budget breakthrough.
The Governor also said he wants to bring an outside mediator into the process. This is an unconventional – if not unprecedented – approach, which would put a non-elected citizen in the position of making important decisions at the Capitol.
House and Senate leaders were going to meet with the governor today and I hope they were able to make progress in getting everyone on the same page. I will keep you updated.
