Greetings from the Capitol!
The agriculture omnibus bill was the first of our big finance bills to receive final passage in the House this week. It had bipartisan support and is on its way to the Governor for his action. We expect him to approve it.
All our other finance bills currently are being reviewed by conference committees. They will iron out differences between House and Senate versions before we vote on them one more time and send them to the Governor. We have shifted gears a bit while we are waiting for those bills to come back and are spending some time on policy issues.
One policy bill have I authored will help reduce congestion along Cedar Avenue as the state’s first Bus Rapid Transit rolls into Apple Valley. This legislation allows these BRT buses to travel faster on the shoulder than existing law provides for these vehicles with the approval of the Road Authority. I am grateful to the Dakota County Commissioners who came to the Capitol to testify in favor of my bill and the House committee approved it unanimously.
I also met with local residents during Autism Activism Day this week in St. Paul. I was honored to deliver a speech to these Apple Valley visitors along with other advocates in the Capitol rotunda for the Autism Day Rally. I shared some perspectives I have gained while serving on the Autism Spectrum Disorder Task Force.
Next week the Legislature will break on Monday afternoon for the Easter Break and we will return to the Capitol on Tuesday, April 26th. The session is scheduled to adjourn May 23, but many difficult decisions will arise between now and then. Please keep sending me your input so I can continue doing my best to represent our area when we face these choices. You can reach me by emailing rep.tara.mack@house.mn, or by calling (651) 296-5506.
Have a great weekend and I will bring you another update after the Easter break.
Sincerely,
Tara
