The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced approval of the sale of a 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline blend (E-15) at service stations in the United States. Minnesota has long been a leader in advocating for richer ethanol gas blends and ethanol testing and research initiatives. Below is a statement from State Representative Andrew Falk (DFL-Murdock) who serves on the House Agriculture Committee and is one of a handful of farmers in the state legislature, in response to EPA’s E-15 announcement:
“It is fantastic news that the EPA has given official approval for the sale of E-15 at gas pumps nationwide. It goes to show how Minnesota’s push for richer blends and early investments in ethanol testing and research has paved the way for the sale of E-15 across the country. We had the good sense to prepare for E-15 by establishing an E-10 mandate and working to achieve a goal of an E-20 mandate by 2015. Minnesota has always been pro-active in the area of ethanol development starting in the 1980s when former DFL Representative Roger Cooper authored a bill requiring a 5 percent ethanol blend in all unleaded regular gas.
Our leadership has paid off with the FDA’s approval of E-15 and we will continue to work with the renewable energy industry on ethanol and other bio-fuel development.”
