CANBY, MN – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) recently awarded the City of Canby a $120,000 grant to redevelop a blighted area along Highway 68 – a project that will create 15 new jobs in Canby and save 27 others.
“At a time when unemployment is at 6.3 percent in Yellow Medicine County, every job matters," said state Rep. Andrew Falk. “I am extremely pleased this project is moving forward – fostering economic development in Canby and protecting needed jobs in our community.”
The redevelopment project is expected to grow the tax base by approximately $10,402 – providing more local resources to provide quality city services for Canby residents.
“State government can’t single-handedly bring our state out of this recession,” said Falk. “But there are things we can and must do to help grow the private sector economy, protect jobs, and encourage economic development. Grants like this are just one example of the state’s role in our long-term economic recovery.”
