APPLETON, MN – An announcement this month from Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) offers new hope that the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton, Minnesota may reopen. After closing the facility earlier this year, CCA has offered the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) the use of approximately 1,000 beds at the prison facility.
State Rep. Andrew Falk (DFL – Murdock) enthusiastically supports the plan, saying it could get hundreds of people back to work in the Greater Appleton area.
“Hundreds of families depended on the jobs that were lost here this year," said Rep. Falk, who has been working to keep those jobs in Appleton over the last several years. “More than 400 people in Swift County are out of work right now. We need to fight for every job, and do everything it takes to reopen the Prairie Correctional Facility.”
Falk has sought the assistance of U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken in that effort. Working together with CCA and the BOP, Falk is hopeful we can get people back on the job at Prairie Correctional Facility.
“In this difficult economy, we can’t afford to let one of Swift County’s largest employers simply go away,” Falk said. “I will continue doing everything I can to bring these jobs back to Appleton, and do the work necessary to grow good jobs in all of our communities.”
