REP. FALK ‘S EFFORTS BRING RELIEF FOR FARMERS

St. Paul, MN – In response to a request from State Rep. Andrew Falk, farmers and farm supply companies struggling to get their crops out of the fields and get the propane and diesel fuel they need have been offered some relief.
Rep. Falk said he has been contacted by numerous farmers that mandated driving hours for truck drivers, combined with bad weather, have made it difficult for farmers in the region to get their fall work done. In addition, farm supply companies are experiencing difficulties because of weight and measurement restrictions.
“I contacted Governor Pawlenty and Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Gene Hugoson and requested an immediate waiver on the restrictions," said Falk. “I’m very pleased the waiver was granted and the executive order was signed on November 5th.”
According to the waiver, emergency relief is provided from regulations pertaining to hours of service for carriers and drivers of commercial motor vehicles while in the process of obtaining and transporting diesel fuel, propane and anhydrous ammonia for farm use.
“Without this relief, farmers would not be able to obtain needed supplies of diesel fuel and propane to complete their harvest, resulting in a loss of property and income,” said Falk. “These are challenging economic times; I appreciate the flexibility this waiver gives farmers and businesses to get their work done.”
