LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Ag. taxes in Gov's budget plan

Dear Neighbor,

This afternoon I heard back from the Revenue Dept. here in St. Paul with some clarification on the governor’s plan to broaden the base of taxable items in Minnesota.

It appears farm machinery and parts will remain exempt from the collection of sales tax. HOWEVER, the cost of labor for farm repairs would be subject to the tax under the new proposal. Earlier, there had been confusion pertaining to the inclusion of farm repairs in this new, broadened base of taxable items.

I will continue working on this issue as the governor promotes his new budget, along with plans to pay for it.
