LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

News From Representative Anderson - New Session

The Minnesota Legislature began its new session today. The first day of session is always exciting and optimism is high. This year we are introducing new reforms that will reduce government spending and hopefully increase our budget surplus. This past November the budget forecast from Management and Budget projected an $876 million surplus. This money is put back into reserves according to state law.

Last year we traveled the state to listen to concerns from business owners, local government leaders, and interested citizens. The ideas we heard have helped us to shape our plan for the 2012 session. Reform 2.0 is a conglomeration of these ideas that will eventually be introduced as legislation in committees.

Action in the areas of government reform and job creation are at the top of the list for many here in St. Paul. It seems both the Governor and legislative leaders agree on that premise so, at least starting off, there seems to be more of a spirit of compromise. I find that encouraging.

Much more to come this session. Stay tuned for future email updates as we will have more information as bills become available and are being discussed in committee and on the House floor.

Sincerely,

Paul Anderson
