News From Representative Anderson - Child Care Union Update
A Ramsey County Judge yesterday ordered a halt to the child care provider union election that was set to take place this month. As you may recall, Governor Dayton issued an executive order in November that called for the election among subsidized child care providers. That group of providers accounts for about one-third of all home child care providers in Minnesota. The governor's order did not allow the other 7,000 providers to vote in the election.
Now that the election has been halted by Ramsey County, it won't take place in December. The judge ordered another hearing for January 16th.
More details are sure to emerge in the coming days. In the mean time, I am pleased with the decision made by the judge. The injunction confirms that decisions like this should go through the Legislature instead of being enacted by executive order.
