POST SESSION UPDATE

News From Representative Anderson

With time running short and only 7 days to go until a possible government shutdown we have presented Governor Dayton with two compromises, since he vetoed our balanced budget. The first compromise presented was to meet the governor at his spending requests for K-12 Education, the Judiciary, and Public Safety. These three areas of funding make up nearly half the general fund budget. In another effort to break the stalemate of negotiations another compromise was sent to the governor. Last week Republicans offered to eliminate their tax relief to Minnesotans in exchange for the governor to drop his tax increases. The governor called this “extremely disappointing”.

We have now presented the Governor with three different offers and time is running out. We need to work together in order to pass a budget. We need to hear from the governor on what he is willing to compromise on.

Governor Dayton is the only one who can call the legislature back into a special session. It is my hope that he will call us back soon in order to prevent a government shutdown on July 1st.

Sincerely,

Paul
