Dear Neighbors,
In the Agriculture Committee this week we heard a bill that would allow the regulations of agriculture spraying to stay under the control of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture rather than transferring control to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. It is important to our farmers to keep the control under the Department of Agriculture. The Department does a good job and I do not believe it would be a good idea to have the Pollution Control Agency regulating this.
We also heard a bill I am carrying that would maintain the regulation of agricultural spraying under the control of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture rather than having it possibly transfer to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Another bill I am working on for the House Transportation bill pertains to the method used by the state to reimburse townships for gas taxes. Currently the formula is tied to a township's total taxable market value and results in a higher levy being levied by the townships in order to receive their gas tax distribution. My legislation will allow counties to set the formula and not be mandated to use the tax value anymore.
Now that we are in the home stretch with only 3 weeks to go in session, we have long committee meetings and next week will consist of longer floor days. We need to make sure we get everything wrapped up by sessions end.
Sincerely,
Paul
