St. Paul – Governor Datyon announced his budget proposal for the year 2011 today. He announced increases to LGA funding as well as K-12 education.
“We cannot afford to burden our hardworking Minnesota families during these economic times. Right now our residents don’t have the extra money to pay in taxes,” said Rep. Anderson. “We need to focus on creating jobs in Minnesota. With a tax increase of this magnitude we will be shutting the door to businesses in Minnesota.”
With Governor Dayton’s plan a 4th and 5th tier to the tax rate system would be added and the 4th tier would make us the second highest taxed state in the nation at 10.95% just shy of the highest states, Oregon and Hawaii, who are taxed at 11% each. Minnesota will be the highest taxed state in the nation at 13.95% with the 5th tier to the bracketing system.
“With a looming $6.2 billion deficit Governor Dayton needs to prioritize funding. State government is growing at a rate we cannot afford. The state will take in $32 billion over the next two years - a 5% increase in revenue but automatic spending growth will increase by 27%,” said Rep. Anderson. “We cannot afford this kind of expensive government anymore. We need to learn to live within our means.”
