Neighbor-
The Legislature passed a $140 million disaster-relief package during a one-day special session Monday.
The state's portion would come mostly from $32.5 million in general funds and $26.7 million in general obligation bonds. This will provide relief for flood damage that occurred in 21 counties during September, in addition to aiding areas of central and northern Minnesota which suffered tornado damage in June and July.
A total of $6.6 million was allocated for tornado recovery. Wadena will receive $750,000 Monday for design and construction of public buildings ruined last summer.
Federal officials denied requests for money for individual property owners, however. Gov. Tim Pawlenty indicated 183 homes and 41 businesses were destroyed or substantially damaged by floods.
Sincerely,
Paul
