ANDERSON TAKES OATH, RECEIVES COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
ST. PAUL – State Rep. Paul Anderson was among lawmakers sworn into office Tuesday as the Legislature gathered at the Capitol to begin the 86th legislative session.
It was the first legislative oath of office for the Starbuck Republican, who was elected to represent District 13A in November. He succeeds former Rep. Bud Heidgerken, R-Freeport, who did not seek re-election.
“The first day was pretty special,” Anderson said. “It was really special that family members were able to be with me in the House Chamber during the ceremony. Things will get more serious as we get down to business in the days and weeks to come, but taking that oath of office to start my first session is something I’ll never forget.”
Anderson was assigned to four legislative committees: Agriculture, Rural Economics and Veterans Affairs Finance Division; Environment Policy and Oversight; K-12 Education Finance Division; and State and Local Government.
A farmer by trade, Anderson said the agricultural and rural economics areas suit him and the interests of District 13A especially well. He also said K-12 education is a committee assignment he is eager to take on since it is an issue that concerns most citizens.
“Education is something I think everyone cares about,” Anderson said. “Surveys have shown our school system is among the nation’s best, but I’m looking forward to getting involved and helping to give our children an even brighter future.”
