St. Paul, Minnesota – Today, Governor Mark Dayton released a $60 million supplemental budget for the 2012 – 2013 fiscal years. The budget funds the Dayton Jobs bill, increases benefits for Minnesota Veterans, Reverses some of the more devastating cuts to the Department of Human Services, and funds efforts to fight the spread of Asian Carp. The budget is funded through the closing of corporate tax loopholes.
Regarding this budget, State Representative John Persell issued the following statement:
“I am pleased to see Governor Dayton prioritize benefits for our vets. Expanding the Veterans GI Bill, incentivizing the hiring of veterans, and providing additional support is especially prudent at a time when we are seeing high rates of unemployment amongst our returning service men and women.
“As a veteran myself, I know how difficult the transition back to civilian life can be. Given the sacrifices they have made to defend and protect our freedoms at home, we ought to do all that we can to support our vets and their families."
