ST. PAUL – New information released on Wednesday from the Minnesota Department of Transportation listed a number of new transportation improvement projects that will take place across the state with the funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Rep. John Persell said several of those road projects will take place in his district.
“These shovel ready construction projects will put our workers back on the job to make our highways safer in a matter of months," said Persell. “I’ll continue to work with Congressman Oberstar, MnDOT, and the state of Minnesota to make sure these projects move forward as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Local road projects announced include:
- Mill and overlay of Highway 2 near Deer River. Estimated construction cost of $1.7 million. Estimated start time of July, 2009
- Addition of third lane on Highway 2 near Deer River. Estimated construction cost of $1.2 million. Estimates start date of July, 2009
- Mill and overlay of Highway 6 near Deer River and junction of Highway 2. Estimated construction cost of $2.7 million. Estimated start time of August, 2009
- Remove bridges over abandoned railroad track on Highway 2. Estimated cost, $2.5 million. Estimated start time of June, 2009.
- Signal replacement at Ridgeway in Bemidji. Estimated cost, $66,000. Estimated start time of June, 2009.
“These dollars will be spent paying workers and contractors who are ready to get to work,” said Persell. “Hopefully, this is the beginning of the spark we need to start the economic recovery Minnesotans need.”
