STATE REP. STEVE DRAZKOWSKI TOURS FLOODED AREAS, OFFERS ASSISTANCE
MAZEPPA – Following the devastating rainfall that left many area communities underwater and forced many residents from their homes, State Representative Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) has been touring the flooded areas to see the devastation firsthand and provide storm victims with the most current information being issued by the state.
“Dealing with a natural disaster is a new and obviously unwanted experience for many of these folks, so I’m doing my best to let them know what services are available to them and to reassure them that help is on the way,” Drazkowski said.
Drazkowski noted that homes and businesses in Wabasha and Goodhue counties, particularly in Zumbro Falls, Hammond, Pine Island, and Jarret, received extensive damage due to last week’s massive rainfall.
Drazkowski has been speaking daily with Governor Tim Pawlenty, as well as other local and state leaders, to assess the damage and to determine the severity of the disaster. In all, 34 Minnesota counties were included in the disaster area declaration.
Drazkowski said a special session to address disaster relief for flooding victims will be held sometime between Oct. 7 and Oct. 12. Pawlenty indicated this would likely be the fastest special session in history, lasting just a half a day or one full day.
