NEWS RELEASE

MINNESOTA CITY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION TO RECEIVE GRANT

ST. PAUL – State Representative Steve Drazkowski (R-Wabasha) is pleased to announce that the Minnesota City Historical Association will be receiving a state grant to help preserve a historical landmark.

Drazkowski will also recognize the organization’s commemoration of our state’s 150th birthday by presenting them with an official Minnesota Sesquicentennial flag at a ceremony on November 28.

“The Sesquicentennial of Minnesota is a once in a lifetime event, and I am pleased that this grant will help us celebrate our region’s rich history,” Drazkowski said.

The Minnesota Sesquicentennial Commission announced in September that the group received a $1,000 grant for collaborating with Minnesota Baptist Ladies Aid Society to renovate and create function archives at Minnesota City’s historic Baptist Church site.

Of the Sesquicentennial’s original $750,000 funding by the state legislature, $325,000 was set aside to be given as grants to communities throughout Minnesota for use toward local celebrations, commemorations or enduring projects that reflect Minnesota’s Sesquicentennial.

Area residents are welcome to attend the Minnesota City Historical Association ceremony, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the historic Baptist Church, located at 140 Mill St., in Minnesota City on Wednesday, November 28.
